Coffee Holidays Celebrated Annually

Posted by Meera Nair on

As a coffee lover, you’d agree that we don’t need a special occasion to celebrate our love for the beverage. Every time we brew ourselves a cup of joe, it is a reminder of how important coffee is in our daily lives.

That said, there are several annual coffee holidays that people acknowledge the world over. These occasions are meaningful to the global coffee culture and make room for us to individually celebrate various aspects of the culture.

International Coffee Day

This one’s probably the only coffee holiday that most coffee lovers have heard of and are reminded of come October each year.

It was first celebrated on 1st October 2015 and established by the International Coffee Organization. With this occasion, their goal was to promote coffee, show support for coffee farmers, and encourage practising sustainability in the industry.

While this is a globally celebrated holiday, many organisations in coffee-producing countries also host workshops, competitions, coffee tours and other activities on this day.

As a coffee consumer, you can enjoy discounts, giveaways, and other perks from both online and offline stores near you.

National Barista Day

Let’s face it, not everyone can set up their own coffee corner in their kitchen and rely on quality gear as well as their expertise to brew a cup every day.

1st March marks National Barista Day. It is meant to show appreciation for baristas who make it accessible for everyone to enjoy a good cup of coffee. The dedication and skill they exhibit as they routinely grind whole beans, prep and maintain espresso machines, and perfect recipes so that their customers leave the coffee shop with a smile is no small feat.

Since National Barista Day is coming up, we want to encourage all of you to wish your local baristas and make them feel special for the efforts they put in.

National Coffee Milkshake Day

You may have noticed how coffee shops and dessert parlours promote new and interesting drinks every Coffee Milkshake Day.

For those with a sweet tooth, this combination of rich & bold coffee with creamy & sweet ice cream to create a milkshake is a divine pairing. Ask a coffee lover around you, and they may just have the perfect recipe for a great coffee milkshake.

National Coffee Milkshake Day is celebrated primarily in the United States every 26th July. But it’s not rare to find coffee businesses in other countries also paying heed to this occasion.

If you love coffee milkshakes, let us know in the comments what’s your go-to recipe.

Coffee Week

This week-long coffee occasion has its origins in the UK. While it's great to celebrate coffee culture, Coffee Week is all about giving back to the community that makes it possible for all of us to enjoy this beverage.

It began as a fundraising event for Project Waterfall - an initiative to ensure access to clean drinking water for coffee-growing communities. Every year, this campaign benefits locals of various rural areas.

It takes place during the month of October. Various coffee businesses participate in the campaign by donating to it and making their customers a part of this heartfelt project. They host coffee tastings, and fun events that create an atmosphere of merriment for coffee lovers.

National Cappuccino Day

Did you know that cappuccino is the most popular coffee drink in the world?

Although considered an Italian drink, this beverage originated in Vienna in the 18th century.

It is praised by coffee lovers for how well the espresso base and frothy milk go together to create a strong impression of flavours and texture.

National Cappuccino Day is celebrated on 8th November and serves as a way for people to applaud the invention and the skill required to create a perfect cup of cappuccino.

National Espresso Day

To celebrate the invention of the espresso machine in 1901 and reflect on the importance of the beverage in today’s global coffee culture, National Espresso Day is celebrated on 23rd November.

Espresso is the second favourite coffee beverage in the world, after cappuccino, and has topped many lists in countries.

It offers an unparalleled coffee experience, bringing out interesting flavour notes that not just reflect the roast but also the origin of the bean. Moreover, a shot of espresso is the true symbol of the energy that coffee lovers get with every sip of the beverage.

National Latte Day

Every year on 11th February, National Latte Day is observed across the globe. There are many ways you can celebrate this day if you enjoy lattes too.

From trying a new latte recipe at home to taking a latte art workshop with your friends, you can have fun on this day the way you see fit.

There’s something so comforting about a well-brewed latte, especially because this drink can be adapted perfectly for those who enjoy hot or cold coffee.

You may also find promotional events to participate in at coffee shops in your city.

If you get the chance, you should certainly participate in coffee events and celebrations.

In addition to bringing recognition to the industry and the people who work to keep the coffee trade booming, such holidays also add joy to one’s life, if only for the sole reason of getting to meet other coffee lovers.
