Christmas Coffee Drinks To Make at Home

Christmas Coffee Drinks To Make at Home

Posted by Meera Nair on

Come every holiday season, delectable desserts and eye-catching coffee beverages become the norm.

Even for those who enjoy their coffee only in a particular style, latte or iced americano, these delicious coffee drinks that reflect the festive atmosphere can seem irresistible.

This year, why not try and make a few Christmas-y coffee drinks at home with your favourite coffee blend?

Gingerbread Latte

For this one, most coffee blends, irrespective of tasting notes, would be a good fit because the ingredients that truly bring out the gingerbread flavours and the sweetness are added separately to the brew.

Make your coffee decoction as you would. To the cup, add milk and spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger. There are also gingerbread syrups available that you can add to the brew.

Those who enjoy a good balance of sweet and spicy should definitely try making gingerbread latte this year.

Peppermint Mocha

Perfect for fans of mint chocolate, this peppermint mocha recipe is super easy to make at home.

Pick a coffee blend that is a medium roast with nutty chocolate flavour notes. Brew a shot of coffee and mix it with steamed milk. Drizzle a little peppermint syrup on top. If you want this drink to be even more indulgent, add some shaved dark chocolate and whipped cream too.

Peppermint can, in some cases, mask the coffee flavour if you’re not careful with how much you use. So tweak the recipe as you go.

Mulled Coffee

Love coffee but can’t stand milky ones? Well, you’re about to discover a new favourite recipe.

Inspired by the classic mulled wine, this drink is not for those who prefer mild flavours. Intensity is written all over the flavour profile of this drink.

Choose a full-bodied coffee that has earthy-woody tones. These would complement the spices in the recipe, leaving you feeling warm and comforted.

In a saucepan, as you brew the coffee, add cinnamon, orange peel, cloves, and a pinch of sugar. Let this mixture simmer for a bit and it’s ready to be served.

Eggnog Latte

Most coffee enthusiasts would never think of egg and coffee together. But eggnog latte is one of the ultimate holiday-themed drinks.

In a blender, add strong brewed coffee, nutmeg, eggnog, and milk. Blend it all together, and once you’ve poured it into a cup, sprinkle some cinnamon on top.

If you’re thinking about what coffee to use, try a light or medium roast. The subtle flavours of the coffee should complement the creamy richness of the eggnog.

Buttery Rum Coffee

Whether you enjoy a boozy drink or not, you should certainly give this one a try.

To a cup of brewed coffee, add a bit of butter, brown sugar, and some rum (you can also use rum flavouring if you’d prefer that).

The bold, smoky flavours of coffee and rum together create the perfect canvas for the richness of the butter and the nutty-sweet flavours of the sugar.

If you can, use a dark roast to create this recipe. The mouthfeel and body of such a roast give this drink a wonderful texture.

Candy Cane Cold Brew

Yet another Christmas coffee drink that is a perfect combination of minty-sweet flavours, you can use a washed processed coffee for this recipe.

The idea is to weave the sweetness of candy cane into its crisp flavour profile with bright acidity. Since we’re opting for a cold brew, you can make a large batch of this drink in one go.

Into a glass topped with ice, add the cold brew and stir in some peppermint syrup. Top it with a dollop of cream and candy cane sprinkles. You can also just garnish it with a candy cane.
